Little Wars

A seipa photograph of a young Peter Cushing, in shirt and vest, lying on the ground with a book (titled "Little Wars") face-down next to him. He is inspecting the scene in front of him, showing several dozen toy soldiers (including cavalry and artillery) in formation in a small-scale model town, with several buildings and a windmill).

Peter Cushing playing a wargame, with a copy of H.G. Wells' "Little Wars" ruleset. Some additional charming context about Cushing's love for painting figures here: https://bsky.app/profile...

Cushing was my kinda geek. Model airplanes, painting and wargaming with minis, model trains, board games, etc. It's a shame he missed out on the golden age of board games and stuff like Warhammer, he probably would have loved it.

@CaptainMarvel When this was going around, someone said that they had tried to track down Cushing's collection (and failed, alas), and that several Hammer scream queens said that Cushing taught them how to paint miniatures as a way to kill time on set (including Ingrid Pitt, of "The Vampire Lovers", showing off a Boudica figure she still had that she had painted with him). How lovely! https://bsky.app/profile...
