Weekend Ride

Had a friend visit over the weekend to do some winter mountain biking at one of my favorite local trail systems, Alum Creek in Columbus Ohio.

The fat bike certainly wasn’t necessary for the inch or so of snow, but it definitely made for a very different kind of experience than on my full-suspension Yeti. I did miss suspension a bit, but the big tires made up for that the on numerous frozen roots. Lap times weren’t impressive (roughly double my PR) with it being a bit slippery - but I accidentally ended up doing the two hours of base miles my training plan called for, and it certainly beats riding inside. Plus can’t pass up the rare chance to ride with a friend, and the opportunity to have a photo of me riding. I almost only ever ride solo.

We got six inches of snow overnight, so my plan at lunch today is to go ride somewhere in town on the Mukluk. I expect today will be much harder physically since I’ll likely be the first wherever I go, even if I just stick to the paved rail trail.
