Poor Sloppy Joe

When my kid was old enough I wanted to introduce him to sloppy joes, because as a kid I could eat an unsettling quantity of them.

But wanting the best for my kid, I bought a can of the fancy Manwich my family never got because it was too expensive.
Gave it to him fully expecting him to light up excitedly from the first taste. Instead, he looked a bit glum and said he didn’t really like it.
That seemed insane to me, but was happy to eat it in his stead. Except when I took a bit I thought hmmm I don’t really like this. WTH?!

Called my mother to ask what the deal was. Turns out my parents basically made poor man’s bolognese: cheap ground beef and a can of Campbell’s tomato soup. The end.

So tonight, years later, I finally remembered to buy all (both) of the ingredients so I could make some. Just as delicious as I remembered. And m’kiddo loved it! (Well actually he hated that it made a mess and ultimately made me just put it into a bowl. Fine by me! 😂) Three cheers!
