In 1154, Arab geographer Muhammad al-Idrisi’s 'The Excursion of One Who is Eager to Traverse the Regions of the World' was completed . It took over 10 years to finish.

A 1929 reproduction of his map (above) shows he didn't presume North is at the top of maps.
