So, years ago my oldest bestest friend in the world gave me this wicked cool mug, dedicated to the bestest car show in the world.

For all those years I simply chalked the slogan up to the sort of denigrating label that Ray and Tom Magliozzi might use to describe the sort of idiocy that car mechanics and their customers might indulge when trying to figure out why the damn car was broken.

But I just googled it, and – in this week in my life when I'm about to make a pretty big leap of faith away from startup work and into art – I found it to be much more beautiful and inspirational than that.

Please enjoy this, the Magliozzi bros' joint 1999 MIT commencement address: https://www.awakin.org/v2...

And if you don't know them and you care about cars, here's a great place to catch up: https://www.npr.org/podcasts...

RIP Tom (more than a decade ago)

When "Car Talk" was at its peak it could be a masterclass in the analytical/debugging process. I loved the show, not just for the laughs, but because when they got serious, it was amazing to witness them grinding down through the problem. Learned so much from those guys.

I don't like cars. My experiences with car repairs were only out of dire necessity when I didn't have money to pay a mechanic.

I still listened to them every time I could.

Great luck on your jump.
