I usually skip sponsor reads, with two exceptions: I find the reads on Aging Wheels' channel funny, and brutalmoose does these amazing music videos that are just bizarre and catchy.
I am actively hostile towards advertising in my space. I have zero interest in the nonsense they are peddling to the dumbs. If you have to advertise it for it to sell, it is almost certainly not worth buying.
I've managed to build a fairly robust bubble to keep it out. It mostly involves watching YouTube premium all day, but I can go hours without being targeted.
Problem is it's made me hypersensitive, and when I do see an ad, I'm easily triggered.
Me too. When an ad is unskippable, I just block it out as best I can. Repetitive ads that cannot be skipped equal never buying the product in a million years. Lookin at you Baerskin hoodies.
@urlnotfound Have you found a good solution for blocking ads on mobile? I have an iPhone and I've yet to find a way to block ads, regardless of the browser I'm using. It makes for a stark difference in quality between browsing on my desktop, where all ads are blocked, and mobile, where many websites are nigh unusable.
@WikiAdam I have an Android phone. I use Firefox, which also me to install the ublock origin plugin directly. I am not as well-versed on iThings. I imagine there are DNS-based technologies you can do to reduce the number of ads, but I don't know any specific advice to give you. Sorry.
It doesn't work when you're on the cell network but I keep our family devices at home pretty well clear of ads using Diversion, @wikiadam. I doubt most of my coworkers realize the favor I'm doing but I have it running on our work LAN as well.
@WikiAdam Firefox Focus (which for some inexplicable reason still exists, thank goodness) plus AdGuard and Hush. All free.
Everything at home uses PiHole. With my mobile devices set up as described there's not a huge difference in how mobile browsing feels with or without the PiHole engaged.
Until I started shaving off service expenses this year, I was using BitDefender for a few things. It's around $60 annually. It worked well on website ads.
@WikiAdam I use AdGuard on Android and Mac and they have iOS, too. Installs outside the browser so it catches ads in everything. Worth the price. There's a sale right now, in fact.
