Knitted Hilbert curve, triptych
alt text
Picture of a knitted artwork, about eight inches wide and twenty-ish inches long, showing three increasingly complicated iterations of the Hilbert curve fractal executed in yellow, orange, and red yarn respectively, all over an off-white background yarn. The edges of the piece and the horizontal rows separating each of the colored curves are done in garter stitch; the curves themselves and the negative space around them in each figure is done in stockinette.
Finished this piece a few days ago, getting around to posting as I try to clear off my metaphorical desk for the year (the physical one is hopeless). Being knitting, I worked from the bottom, which means that it got both less interesting (fewer changes to think about) and faster to execute (fewer changes to think about!) as I moved upward.
Glad I pushed through and just made it instead of trying to perfect it; learned a bunch of things to think about for future work from what wrong in subtle ways, which is helpful, but also the overall thing works pretty well regardless, which is also satisfying!
