The film and television actress was born on this day in 1924. It's kind of a wild thing to say about a woman who won an Oscar (Best Supporting Actress in Douglas Sirk's "Written on the Wind", 1956) and was the lead for four years in the '60s soap opera "Peyton Place", but to me her defining role is as a character in "The Big Sleep" who doesn't even get a name but is absolutely 100% going to bang Bogie.
