Funny, I was just thinking about you and your kitty the other day, wondering how he was doing, so this is just splendid. Just splendid!!

My kitten. Image was taken with a pixel phone. AI - ish content warning. I used the Google Photos magic eraser to remove the handle/strap of the laser pointer I was dangling to get his attention and punched up the colors and contrast a little because he is back lit.
Krypto and the health problems of a rescued from the street kitten.
Krypto was found alone in the street at less than three months of age. The animal rescue pulled some infected baby teeth, gave him shots, neutered him, and got him set up to be adopted. When we meet we became friends immediately, and I got to take him home. This was just before Thanksgiving.
On new year's eve Krypto began to act listless and stopped eating. In the morning, I saw he was trying to use the litter box, but couldn't. So on new year's day, we were at an emergency vet hospital fearing a bowel obstruction. They did X-rays and blood work but found no obstruction or reason for him to be struggling to keep things moving. They offered to keep him overnight for a couple thousand dollars to monitor him. I took him home and to my regular vet first thing the next morning. An enema and some more X-rays and more blood tests and a couple of vaccinations later, he was limping a lot from the blood draws and from a very big poop from a little kitten.
The next day, Saturday, he was not just still walking funny from his procedures. He was dragging his back legs behind him and struggling to do kitten things. I took him to a different emergency vet. They kept him 12 hours to observe and do more testing and specific X-rays looking for spinal injuries or swelling. The vet decided it was almost certainly Feline Infectious Peritonitis.

He is now on the GS-441524 on an 84-day treatment protocol. He started improving very quickly. This is costing about $30 a day in the form of 1.5 pills. So far keeping this little guy alive has cost me $5,000+ with the various vet visits, tests and medicines. I have a bonus coming in the next month that will very much cover this treatment, though I did have other plans for the money.
It's worth it, though. I love him with the fire of 1,000 yellow suns. I think the universe put him in my path so I could rescue him. If someone else had adopted him, they may not have been able to afford it and they would have been forced to make a choice I am blessed to not have to make. I figure if the universe wanted me to save him, I had better do that. I've fought the universe and lost before and he's just a kitten who needs me.
Krypto's veterinarian is very experienced with treating FIP and is very pleased with his progress. He is still struggling with some of his walking. When he runs, sometimes his back legs get very tangled and he falls. He doesn't jump as high or be as coordinated and graceful as you would expect a kitten of his age and size. However, he has gained about three pounds in the last 6 weeks. He is in fine spirits and plays and chases the laser, and tackles the other cat. He loves to be cuddled and be petted.
I am the luckiest man in the world.
