samosa larger than a small tractor

I'd heard about the tiny gas station in rural Ontario that made fantastic samosas, but only got there yesterday. They are truly amazing. One type (veggie: potato) but everything about the flavour and texture is perfect. The tamarind sauce is a nice dip, too.

Regional Variety & Gas Bar: 1670 St Paul St West, St Catharines

It's surrounded by vineyards. It's about half an hour west of Niagara Falls. We have amazing samosas in Toronto, but these are next-level.

Reminds me of the (in)famous gas station sushi here, on a state highway in what used to be a rural area but exurban development has swarmed past it within the past decade.

Gas stations with southern cooking and soul food hot bars are very much a thing hereabouts, it's one of the main ways to get fried chicken or pork chops once you're outside the cities, but the gas station sushi shop is still unique as far as I can tell. I haven't tried it yet but want to, it's not in a convenient place for us to get to. They sell teeshirts and other swag because of course they're leveraging the fact that people want to show off to their friends about the time they had gas station sushi.

I've heard tell of a truckstop in Minnesota frequented by South Asian truck drivers that has amazing food, but I haven't verified the stories yet...

@ardgedee gas station sushi sounds like russian roulette

@ba I remember hearing of a similar place near Phoenix, AZ. Phoenix has had a Sikh community for over a century.

@scruss That's the angle, really. You're set up to expect frozen sushi from a factory in New Jersey or something and you get served a decently good meal. Not "food of my homeland by the sea" good but you'll enjoy it and you won't die.

Anyway, damn I could kill a good samosa or two right now. It's been a while since I've had the opportunity.

anything but metric!

@ardgedee "not die" is an important part of me enjoying food, at least so far

@travis as a Canadian, I resent that! These samosas were roughly 95 mm to the side, and about 30 mm thick. Converted into Canadian metric driving units, that's 3.42 seconds and 1.08 seconds, respectively
