Eisenhower had a lot to answer for

A newspaper clipping from 1960. This regular column in the San Francisco Chronicle consisted of street interviews conducted by "The Question Man" (who was actually a woman). One of the interviewees here is cartoonist B. Kliban.

Used to be that spending time in San Francisco would heighten your risk of being one of the random people to get interviewed by "The Question Man" (actually a very nice lady). The column ran for years, me and my girlfriend got interviewed.

Here she records the innermost thoughts of cartoonist B. Kliban, later to produce such masterpieces as "Flat Cat in a Slat Vat".

@ba I mean who wouldn't? Especially knowing that, in his way, Ike helped nurture the beat poets AND west coast jazz? Without the crowds of rude drunks, there'd be no one for Vince Guaraldi to throw ashtrays at while he was trying to play!

Neat part about old newspapers they always included the postal address of the person in the story. To get hate/fan mail
