That's the name. They also put it in big glowing letters on the front of the building.

Having worked in a printshop for a while I can say that when we got the occasional job like this we would do an "Are you REALLY REALLY SURE? No refunds, redos or discounts because we did exactly what you asked" before starting work.

I dunno makes it stand out. China Buffes sounds like it could be a verb. Buffing porcelain for example

@poorusher My guess is they were trying to make a portmanteau of "buffet" and "fest" but didn't grasp how native English speakers would take it. It's also plausible the misspelling is intentional to be eyecatching. There's a fishmonger in one of the smaller towns near here who does that with his street signs. Now and then somebody corrects them with a sharpie and shopkeeper promptly replaces them with new misspelled signs.

I don't really know.

@poorusher The signs said "China Buffet" up through some time late last year. It's starting to look like this was deliberate:

I worked for a company that catered mostly to the paper industry, but also had a division that did custom stickers, labels, and everything else in-between. One of our customers was one of the biggest garage for companies in the area. They wanted a warning label for all their doors that had several typos and a few glaring grammatical errors. The rep pointed these mistakes to them, they argued insisting they were right and to go to print. It was a huge run costing several thousand. The rep made them sign off on the proof and kept a copy. When the CEO saw the finished product, he was furious and insisted we reprint on our dime. The rep headed over with the approved copy signed off by his gang of idiots. They paid for the reprint. I'm guessing some dudes were hiring the bricks shortly thereafter.

@ardgedee Oh I see, that is quite odd then!
