Saw this last night and was thinking about posting it.
Never really got along with "Bob's Burgers" but every so often one of their covers videos really connects. This one somehow manages to be silly but absolutely captures the feel of doing your favorite song for yourself.
I am the opposite of @ardgedee. I've always really liked the show itself. I've always enjoyed the high-functioning family dysfunction and I think Bob is a great father figure. However, the songs are usually a hard pass for me. I am not a show tunes and musical fan. I actively dislike most musicals that aren't comedies or a cartoon, probably especially that really really good one you think I need to watch to change my mind.
I don't know what original song this is a cover of, so I have no idea what this is supposed to be or what it means from the context of the song choice. The joke at the end was really funny, though. It really fits that Bob would spend his precious few moments of free time time to not only sing a song just to be supportive of his son's creativity, but to full-send his performance because he always gives his best to his family.
also a big bob's burgers fan (though i haven't kept up in the last couple years). wildly i'm about halfway between urlnotfound and ardgedee in that i love both the functional dysfunction and the music.
it's nice to see a family that isn't magically making it, and i love seeing weirdo kids actually as maladjusted as i was. real family love and acceptance, but not in a saccharine way. it's so friggin wholesome.
and i normally am not a fan of musicals or musical parody, but there's something so perfectly sweet and genuine about the songs. i mean, i walk around singing "electric love" to myself all the damn time.
and oh, to answer your uncertainty, @urlnotfound, this is a cover of the 1978 joy division single "transmission" - notoriously brooding, dark postpunk band, lead singer died very young.

Bobs Burgers is a great show, and while I hate musicals, I love the stupid songs. I kind of inherited my love for both from Home Movies, which is also great.
