Roy Orbison, backed by Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, James Burton, Glen D. Hardin, Tom Waits, k.d. lang, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, JD Souther, T Bone Burnett, Steven Soles, and Jennifer Warnes, sings his song "Only the Lonely". In the background one sees glimpses many of those backing musicians look so happy to be there; they keep looking at Orbison with adoration and happiness. Bruce Springsteen looks particularly amazed.
All the Bruce Springsteen coverage lately has reminded me of this great video from a great album, in which Orbison is "backed by Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, James Burton, Glen D. Hardin, Tom Waits, k.d. lang, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, JD Souther, T Bone Burnett, Steven Soles, and Jennifer Warnes." You can see the Bruce just absolutely losing his mind with joy in this video, as in, he looks like he can't believe he's there! He's trying so hard not to have the biggest shit eating grin. Such a great album, too.
