stop telling me what to do
@dreyfusslugado same, but i think mine is more a mix of live rock shows and not enough ear protection around power tools
Reminds me tangentially of a thing I saw recently about a kid who always complained that the hand dryers in bathrooms hurt her ears. She eventually went in and measured the decibels in a whole bunch of bathrooms and discovered that they were, in fact, dangerously loud. Silly kids these days, valuing their health and safety! 😂
They used to have us do annual hearing screenings when I worked at a pipe factory. There's nothing like sitting in a dark, quiet room with headphones on to really make the tinnitus sing. I also, somehow, consistently aced those things.
@dreyfusslugado Nope. Fuck this, fuck this, may it burn in hell and whoever came up with it suffer tinnitus the rest of their days.
My phone throws this alert up regularly while I listen to podcasts, which is almost always while the volume is at its lowest possible setting. I am inclined to believe it will throw this alert even if the volume is muted, but haven't felt arsed enough to try.
This alert only comes up when I have a headphone adaptor plugged into the USB port. It has never popped up when I'm using wireless. Which is usually with the phone's volume setting entirely maxed out. (and volume controlled independently by the bluetooth device)
The alert is accompanied by a loud BWONG which momentarily drowns out the boring people I was listening to talking. It is a pointless widget that exists only to drive people to buy expensive wireless headsets.
I hate it. It is beyond worthless. It has to die.

Too many years of taking the bus and having my Walkman (remember those?) cranked up to high volume to overcome the roar of the bus engine.
There was one bus driver who told me not to listen to music on the bus, but I think it was because he was an asshole, not out of any concern for my ears. Like, somehow he could hear the sound from my headphones over the sound of the bus.
Nowadays, everything I hear us underscored by a tinnitus "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee". :(
