Going to the Sun Road, Glacier NP

My bicycle leans against a low stone guardrail wall on the Going to the Sun Road, an alpine road in Glacier NP. The view is to the east with Logan Pass in the distance.

There were rumors all week that the road would open up to the top, but no date. I staked my bet on Thursday, and planned an early out from work. Lucky me, that was right on the money. I got on the bike right after 5:30pm and hit Logan Pass right at 9:00pm, just in time for a cold thunderstorm to roll in. It was fine though--I brought all the layers. While the getting there part took 3.5 hours, I was back to my car in less than an hour. Average speed of 7.9 mph, max 34.9 mph. Anyhow it's open all weekend to bikes, then the tourist season kicks off, with the road opening to cars Monday.

Something about the quality of the colors reminds me (in a good way, actually) of old family vacation slides.
