On this day in 1942, Luftwaffe pilot Armin Faber became disoriented after winning a dogfight with Czech pilot František Trejtnar (serving in the RAF; Trejtnar bailed out of his plane and survived) and thought he was flying over the English Channel to Nazi-occupied France. Instead, he landed at RAF Pembrey in Wales, where a quick-thinking duty pilot captured him with a flare gun. His plane was the only Fw 190 fighter captured intact during World War II.
