Researching tall tripods

French criminologist Alphonse Bertillon pioneered the "God's-eye view" (or overhead) crime scene photograph in the early 1900s. By mounting his camera on an exceptionally tall custom tripod, he was able to document rooms from directly above, providing a permanent, objective layout of furniture and victims without disturbing the floor.
