Insoles for the 3d printed sandals/zori
alt text
I found some fun fabric at Michaels and got some foam rubber to make insoles out of. This is actually the second try, because the first try looked stupid. It turns out stretching fabric over foam rubber and upholstery have a lot in common, so I took a look at some upholstery videos, and tried my amateurish best to copy the idea of how they did things.
For the top, I glued the fabric to the foam rubber with e6000, smoothing it with an Apoxy Sculpt pot, let it cure for a bit, then for the bottom, I stretched the fabric over, and secured it with hot glue, so it would adhere quickly. Then I cut and trimmed all the placed where the fabric bunched up, so the bottom would be relatively flat.
I think it looks pretty good! The straps are an experiment with some different fabric. Next step is to sew some big puffy straps, and see how comfy they are.
