Big Basil Bed

Another bumper crop of basil this year!
I let the front two plants flower and flower without nipping any of it off until today because I felt bad about taking flowers from pollinators (we have other flowers, so I didn’t need to feel guilty), and although those ripped taller than the rest at first, they didn’t really feel like keeping up the pace since I let them bloom.
Since we were out of town for two weeks (and had a lot of rain) I only just now finished trimming all the flowers off all of them, and they’re beautiful. As you can see, at their tallest they’re about 30”-31” high now.
At the far side, past the anemic looking basil, are my thriving lemon balm plants, that are lower than the basil. Watering and mowing over here is great. Lemon & basil all the way!

The firat year we had a basil jungle like this we made enough pesto (froze it into cubes) that we still have a few bits left these five years later. I recommend it. 😂
