Overhead photo-like illustration/composite of this bee. It's on a pink background. It is giner-clord, with six black fuzzy legs, and two antennae, with its wings crossed on its back

Seeing videos of these big bees is really amazing. They can grow up to 4cm/1.575 in in length.

Commercial farming is causing their decline :(

NSFW because some don't like insects

Went out of town last weekend and got screwed over by a hotel and had to scramble to find another option. Ended up at a B&B run by a couple. The husband was super into bees, so the entire yard was a pollinator garden, and he had his hives out back. Turns out the county fair was also happening and he was president of the beekeepers club so we got to see them in action at the fair.

Anyways...bees are great. We need more of them and need to protect the ones we have better. Goal is to get more flowers in the yard next year.

Oh...also the advice I got: Do not clean up your garden in the fall. Apparently a lot of bees rely on the dead plants over the winter (at least in our PNW climate). Also a great excuse to do less yardwork!
