I visited the used bookstore he worked at a few times (it's gone now) but I honestly couldn't tell you whether I'd met him there because I'm more or less celebrity-blind (Mac McCaughan took my ticket at the gate for a Mergefest and I didn't know it until my wife told me later -- and that guy's like 6'5" or something). Any gossip I've heard about Wurster though always makes him sound like a pretty great guy.
@ardgedee which store? Chapel Hill became so impovershed as a place to walk around and shop in my years there, in 1994, when I came, there was a lot more than T-shirt stores and beer/burger/wings places.
