“Previously, on Porch Tomatoes…”

Two small tomatoes sit in my hand with room to spare. Rather than looking like cherry tomatoes or similar varietals meant to be this small, they look like miniature versions of full-size heirloom tomatoes.

Y’all may recall that I opted to make a couple tomato plants essentially ornamental on our front stoop ( https://mltshp.com/p/1RRUJ ).

They were a variety of heirloom that - in our regular tomato bed - grew tall and strong and produced lots of big delicious fruit.

These li’l pots with less room and less rainwater and more “oops I forgot to water them,” etc., still produced fruit, but they were these adorable little miniatures of their full-sized brethren. Bonsai tomatoes, if you will.

We made them part of last night’s caprese, and, while not notable in their sweetness or acidity or depth of flavor, were still a-ok. Fun little not-meant-to-be-mini tomatoes.
