It was the best of the burns, it was the worst of burns.
Gorgeous times and a lot of hard work (building the observation tower for Hobo Camp, six 6hr shifts on Gate/Perimeter/Exodus) and a suicidal shortage of sleep wrapped around a gooey core of deep conversations with old friends (đź‘Š@zeitgeist) and new acquaintances - and three straight days of utterly shit weather.
Bonus: I got to join the Playa Choir (https://playachoir.com - right, and me at far right) and the Black Rock Philharmonic (https:/blackrockphilharmonic.org - left) to perform “Dies Irae” from Verdi’s Requiem atop the tippy-top of the vertiginous risers out at “Titanic’s End” for an audience of easily 1,200 people in a stiff dust storm.
I thought it was pretty epic … until El Pulpo Magnifico (center) rolled up to play propane percussion, somebody started triggering the two gut-punchingly colossal flame poofers in the Titanic’s funnels, and the whole scene went straight off the hook and into fking orbit.
Re-entry right now 5 days later in a dusty, trash-filled car heading north towards Seattle past the asphalt stench of road crews repaving I-5 is kinda … awful by comparison.
I still can’t entirely believe I got to do that.
