@artwells Bobbbbbby Jindall!! In a response to an Obama State of the Union speech. He truly thought the U.S. didn't have any volcanoes and was endlessly mocked for it. He managed to stick around for another term but the whole debacle kind of neutered his political career.
I remember at (I think) the GSA (Geologic Society of America) conference after that mess there was a panel or lunch speech in response to his comments with something like, "How do we scientists respond to shit like this," and the speaker(s) and half the audience were all "be measured and calm, take the high road" and the other half of the audience was . . . "Can't you see we're in a fight for our lives here, you stupid fucks, so *noOoo*." (That side was right.)
The stupidity hasn't changed but the reaction sure has. *sigh*
