I post this mostly to scream into the void. Our dear dog, Pippa, was diagnosed with a tumor on her spleen several weeks ago. This is basically a death sentence, but we were very lucky to find out about it before it burst. We were given the opportunity to give her a peaceful goodbye on Saturday, the 5th.
On the 3rd, I got a call from my mother that my dad was in the emergency room. The cancer he has been fighting for 18 months had started affecting his lungs and he was having trouble breathing. They decided to put him on hospice, and he returned home on the 4th with a pile of morphine.
We said goodbye to our dog and then packed up to drive down to our parents the next day. There is still dog fur all over the apartment. My father has rapidly declined, from needing a little help to move between the living room and the bed to now being barely there. I'll spare all the gory details in between.
We're looking at hours to days left for him, but my wife and I have decided we need to go home after two weeks with little sleep and acting as the primary support for my mother. Other family is arriving tomorrow. We're expecting to return in a few days, but we need to swap clothes and grab some essentials we forgot in our haste.
