Didn't want to miss out...

I was out of town and was sick, so running a bit behind on my interneting. But this seemed like too much fun to miss out on.

It was tough narrowing this down. The majority of my listening over the years (I have music on most of day while I work, in the car, or working around the house) has typically been to find a good radio station and leave it on. I've also gone through a lot of phases with various artists and albums, where I listen a bunch but rarely revisit. Ultimately, I narrowed this down to albums that I both listened to extensively when I discovered them, and they stuck with me enough to listen again in the last year. These are also roughly in the order I discovered them.

Honorable mentions & other notes:
• I debated including The Who's Who Are You, which I distinctly remember my dad playing loud enough I could feel it in my chest on his Sansui/Altec Lansing system when I was REALLY little. Can't say I remember much beyond the title track though, and I haven't gone back to listening to their work.
• TMBG Flood probably belongs on this list as well, my mom had the tape and played it in the car pretty often.
• Peter Gabriel's Us might belong here, since it was the first album I bought.
• PC&L is really a proxy for all-things New Order up through Republic, which I was all-in on in high school (mid-90's).
• The Gang of Four album is a best-of, but at the time (high school) it was all I could find. It's actually a pretty solid compilation.
• I also debated including Eve from Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine, the debut concert for which was the first concert I attended. OtR, along with The Afghan Whigs and Ass Ponys, were the big-three Cincinnati local alternative bands when I was in high school. Their newer work is much more folk than my taste, but they put on a good concert and my wife is a fan, so we still see them pretty regularly.
• Eno's Nerve Net was actually the first Eno I listened to, when I borrowed it from my friend's older brother. Still love the album, but I think Tiger Mountain holds up better.
• Strawberry is also a proxy for Wussy's entire catalog, who I somehow only recently got into (despite it being very much my taste both in principle and practice, and knowing the Ass Ponys back in the day). I think this might be the album I've listened to the most.

"Second Toughest in the Infants" is another one that shaped what I want in music

@B6FA798A3449 It was a tough choice between that, Dubnobasswithmyheadman, and Beaucoup Fish. Ultimately I realized I'm more likely to listen to standout tracks on those two, but Second Toughest I leave on for the full album.

Your parents had good taste in music. My mom has the first Beatles album, but the only thing i remember my dad ever listening to was this one Whitney Houston cassette.

Also: coincidentally wearing my Wussy t-shirt today.

@wjcstp My mom used to have the then-new MTV on during the day when we were little kids, so I'm sure some of that soaked in. Later she usually put on a semi-legendary early alternative station (WOXY) whenever we were in the car.

My dad tended to stick more in the hard rock/prog rock direction, which I think stuck a lot more with my brother. Lots of Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, Rush, Pink Floyd etc. Don't mind hearing a few of those songs now and then, but not really stuff I seek out.

I bought a Wussy tee featuring one of Lisa's cats when I saw them earlier this year, but its 3/4 sleeve so I have yet to wear it.
