They Did It!

A single dwarf cosmo bloom is fully opened in the foreground, purple/pink petals surrounding a yellow center. In the blurred background, a small clump of undersized plants struggle to put out their own blooms, with a few just beginning to open.
Back in mid July I decided I wanted to plant something other than the weeds that were dying in my planter out by the sidewalk, so I ordered some cosmo seeds. My first attempt was not successful (poor watering plan) and nothing sprouted. Undaunted, I tried again, even though it was now mid August. I thought I had failed again but my little plants finally sprouted and began very slowly growing. Just about the time they began to bud, the weather did a very Seattle thing and went from sunny and 70s to overcast, drizzly, and down into the 40s at night. Today the first bud finally fully opened in spite of everything and a couple more might just possibly bloom before they succumb to the cold.
And now I know how to get them going which means next summer is going to be lousy with the things.
